The Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners (TBCE) is the regulatory agency in charge of the licensure of Texas Chiropractors. Last year the Texas Senate Bill 304 gave TBCE the option to require a biennial chiropractic license instead of an annual license.
As of March 1, 2018, Chiropractors in Texas only have to renew their license every two years.
- The new biennial license renewal applies to all licensees renewing in March 2018, and thereafter.
- The annual continuing education requirement remains in effect. You are still required to complete 16 hours of approved CE credits at the time of your first biennial renewal. When you renew your license in 2020 the full 32 CE hours will be required.
- The biennial renewal fee is $300.00 (if received on or before your license expiration date).
- License renewals will remain due on the first day of the licensee’s birth month, every other year.
- The TBCE will continue to send a renewal notice electronically within 45 days of a licensee’s renewal deadline.
Chiropractic facilities are no longer required to register with the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
Senate Bill 304 repealed the provision that the Board require chiropractic facilities to register as necessary to protect the public health, safety, and welfare. As of September 1, 2017, owners of chiropractic facilities who hold a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) and non-DC facility owners are no longer required to register with the TBCE or pay a fee to operate their facility.
However, the TBCE Rules pertaining to chiropractic facilities have not changed.
- The Board maintains the authority to inspect chiropractic facilities.
- Chiropractors are still required to inform the Board of their current practice location and update a change of address within 30 days.
- Because individuals not licensed to provide chiropractic care are allowed to own and operate chiropractic facilities, licensed chiropractors need to be aware that they are responsible for compliance with the Texas Chiropractic Act and the TBCE Rules.
